There’s nothing out there in the smartphone space that can really leverage so much RAM. The tests we used to measure the performance of the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition are a combination of synthetic and extreme real-world scenarios. We pondered over why one of the fastest phone was packed with even more horsepower, and to find out, we designed and ran a few tests to get an idea whether 10GB of RAM actually make any difference. Setting it up and playing around with it for a while, it oddly felt familiar with no difference in user experience whatsoever, even with two gigs of extra RAM. So when the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition arrived in our test lab, we were all raving to take it out for a spin. It even outperformed out-and-out flagships like the Google Pixel 3 XL, the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and the likes.

The OnePlus 6T (the normal, 8GB variant with 128GB storage) topped almost all our benchmark and performance tests and was recently adjudged the Digit Zero1 Award 2018 for the best high-end smartphone. 10GB worth of memory is the highlight of the device, apart from the 30W fast charging which OnePlus rechristened as Warp Charge. While many thought the collaboration would simply mean another sexy colour variant, OnePlus took us by surprise, packing the most amount of RAM in the phone ever. Both brands are icons of speed - One on the race tracks and the other, in the hands of people. “Salute to speed” is the justification for it, and for the most part, the two complement each other perfectly. And performance is an expected compromise in a mid-range/budget device, but it definitely looks out of place in a 2021 flagship.Celebrating its 5th anniversary, OnePlus recently announced a collaboration with Formula 1 giant, McLaren, launching the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition priced Rs 50,999. Kind of a standard tamper.” The only OnePlus 9 model currently listed is the "R" version with the SD870.Īlthough OnePlus has not responded to the controversy, it appears that the company used performance-limiting measures to ensure better battery life.

Geekbench also noted this development and subsequently removed the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro from the list of Android benchmarks. We have removed the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro from the Android Benchmark list. Instead of practical behaviour, we see this as a kind of standard manipulation. It's frustrating to see OnePlus phones make performance decisions based on app identifiers. Oddly enough, this behavior was only observed when running popular Play Store apps, and if there were alternative/less known apps, this behavior wouldn't exist. Essentially, OnePlus' restraint mechanisms prevent core loads from using the high-performance Cortex X-1 SD888, because they push them into low-power cores while operating at low speeds.

When testing the OnePlus 9 Pro, AnandTech found that the phone performed in dozens of popular apps, including all major Google and Microsoft Office apps, major web browsers, social media apps, and even the first OnePlus app at significantly discounted party programs.

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro may lower the prices of their main competitors, but it seems that these devices do not offer the full performance of the powerful Snapdragon 888 SoC to their owners.
